Ice lose 4-1

February 22, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

Opportunity was knocking throughout the Indiana Ice's Saturday matchup with Team USA U18 at Pan Am Pavillion. Collectively the Ice could not answer the door. Despite out shooting the Red, White and Blue 35-17, Indy dropped a 4-1 decision to the USA Developmental team.

The outcome was primarily decided in the second period when the hosts outshot Team USA 19-5 but were outscored 2-0 in the stanza. Indiana controlled the play but could not break down the door. The frustration mounted when they skated with a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:28 of the second period, but could not convert.

After the U18's Anders Bjork gave the visitors at 1-0 first period lead with a power play goal, Team USA scored on two of their five shots in the second frame to build a 3-0 advantage heading to the second intermission.

Sonny Milano scored at 1:06 of the second period and Alex Tuch potted a goal five minutes later.

Tyler Andrew gave the hosts a glimmer of hope when his turn-around shot from the slot got the Ice on the board. Tyler Pham assisted 54 seconds into the third period.

Indy had nine third-period shots and held the U18's to five shots on goal---but their final attempt was an empty net goal with 33 seconds remaining.

Team USA, who defeated the NCAA's Bowling Green 6-1 Friday evening, stay in town for a rematch Sunday. The puck drops at 3:05 pm at Pan Am Pavilion.
