Steel Win in Des Moines

Bensenville, IL (February 22nd, 2014) - The Chicago Steel are in the middle of their second straight three in three and they are looking to repeat what they did last weekend, sweeping it. Chicago was able to take care of game tonight when they defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-1 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Chicago's CJ Smith got the Steel on the board first and they never looked back. Smith's goal on the powerplay was his sixth powerplay goal of the year and his 13th on the season.

It would take just about a full period of play for the next goal to be scored, but Brian LeBlanc was able to tally the second powerplay goal of the night for the Steel late in the second period. Des Moines showed that they did not want to back down and answered with their own goal only :31 seconds later making the score 2-1 going into the second intermission.

Danny Fetzer was able to give the Steel an insurance goal only 1:36 into the third period and Artem Artemov sealed the deal with an empty net goal, making the final 4-1. Cale Morris had another solid night in goal, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced.

With the Steel winning tonight's contest and Green Bay losing to Youngstown, the Steel have moved into Fourth place in the Eastern division.

The Steel are on home ice tonight (Saturday 2/22 @ 7:05) vs the Muskegon Lumberjacks and tomorrow (Sunday 2/23 @ 3:05) vs the Youngstown Phantoms. Tickets are available for both games and can be purchased by calling 630.594.1161 or online at tickets.chicagosteelhockeyteam.com.
