Hats Fly Twice as Chiefs Trounce Giants, 10-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ten goals. Two hat tricks. A six-assist game. A first career Western Hockey League goal. Everything seemed to bounce the Spokane Chiefs' way on Friday night at Spokane Arena as they trounced the visiting Vancouver Giants, 10-1. The win extended the Chiefs' winning streak over Vancouver to eight games dating back to 2012.

Carolina Hurricanes prospect Hudson Elynuik began the Chiefs' scoring with his seventh goal of the season, punching in a rebound from a Keanu Yamamoto shot on a power play at the 5:08 mark of the first period. The assist was Yamamoto's first of six on the night, just one shy of the franchise record set by forward Maxim Bets against Victoria in 1994.

The Giants answered right back under two minutes later as Edmonton Oilers prospect won a foot race to keep the puck from being iced, eventually assisting on linemate Ty Ronning's eighth goal of the season.

From then on, it was all Spokane as they scored nine unanswered goals to close out the game, highlighted by 2017 NHL Entry Draft prospect Jaret Anderson-Dolan's hat trick and five more helpers from Yamamoto.

Forward Eli Zummack, in his fourth career game and second since being called up earlier this week, scored his first career goal at the 8:34 mark of the third period as he wristed a shot in from the slot on a power play.

Elynuik's third of the night, to complete his hat trick, came unassisted at the 12:42 mark of the third to make it 9-0 before Anderson-Dolan matched with his third of the night at 16:07 to cap the scoring.

The Chiefs finished the game 5-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. They outshot the Giants 29-23. The win pushes Spokane's record to 10-0-0-0 when allowing two or fewer goals against.

Spokane's Jayden Sittler started in goal made 28 saves in the full 60 minutes. David Tendeck started for Vancouver and allowed four goals on 12 shots in 22:52, while replacement Ryan Kubic made 11 saves on 17 shots in 37:08.

--- The Chiefs remain home on Saturday night for the eighth of nine November home games as they take on the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7:05 p.m. It will be Coca-Cola Buck Night as hot dogs and Coca-Cola products will be $1 at concession stands during the game.
