[Calgary, AB - Calgary Hitmen captain Micheal Zipp scored the much-anticipated teddy bear goal with 13 seconds remaining in the first period of The Brick Teddy Bear Toss 2016, cascading a waterfall of stuffed toys from 17,601 fans Saturday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Thanks to the generosity of the Calgary community and The Brick, 60 local agencies, including Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie, Alberta Children's Hospital and Calgary Food Bank will share in the 23,924 teddy bears tossed this holiday season.
The visiting Hurricanes opened the scoring with a pair of goals from Tyler Wong and a single tally off the stick of Giorgio Estephan, before Zipp netted the teddy bear marker.
Wong completed a hat-trick in the second period helping the Hurricanes to a 4-2 victory.
Beck Malenstyn rounded out the scoring for Calgary who received a two-assist effort from Tyler Mrkonjic.
Since the inaugural toss on Dec. 16, 1995, the Hitmen, with the support of their partners and fans, have collected 323,343 stuffed toys for Calgary and surrounding area agencies.
During today's game the Hitmen wore red-themed teddy bear jerseys that are now up for auction at ElevateAuctions.com.
