Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their fifth game in a row Thursday, falling by a score of 5-4 to the Tennessee Smokies in front of 3,166 fans at Smokies Park.
The Barons took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning aided by a solo home runfrom Rangel Ravelo, his third home run of the season.
However, the lead would be short lived as Jorge Soler's two run double in the third inning against starter Scott Snodgress tied the game at 2-2.
Snodgress would exit after surrendering a solo home run to Kris Bryant, giving the Smokies their first lead of the game at 3-2. The home run was Bryant's third of the series and league-leading ninth of the season. Snodgress allowed three runs on eight hits over 5.0 IP.
He was taken off the hook thanks to Kevan Smith's RBI single in the sixth, tying the game at 3-3. Smith finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the game.
The Smokies would pick up the game winning runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Jae-Hoon Ha against reliever Parker Frazier (2-2, 3.00). The Barons would scrap to within a run on an RBI ground out by Ravelo but the eighth but couldn't complete the comeback, falling for the 12th time in the last 14 games.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 12-21 on the season while the Smokies improved to 20-14. The Barons will look right the ship tomorrow night RHP Terry Doyle (2-3, 6.83) takes the hill against RHP Corey Black (2-2, 3.54). First pitch is scheduled for a 6:15 PM CDT on Friday.
