
Stars Take Series After a 7-3 over Jackson Thursday

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (MAY 8, 2014) - The Generals (15-19) lost their fourth series in a row with a 7-3 defeat by the Huntsville Stars (22-12) Thursday in Huntsville. Patrick Brady (2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) hit his first home run of the year and collected two hits and all three RBIs, but it wasn't enough as Jackson fell for the sixth time in seven games.
Huntsville took the early lead in the third inning. With one out and runners on first and second, Nick Ramirez singled to score Josh Prince. After an out, D'Vontrey Richardson scored on Shawn Zarraga's single to make it 2-0 Stars.
Mitch Haniger singled to score Ramirez and it was quickly 3-0. After a walk Chadwin Stang singled to score Zarraga, and the Stars led 4-0. The four run third ended Jackson pitcher Cam Hobson's (3-2, 2.16) 15 consecutive scoreless innings streak as Huntsville batted around.
The Generals responded quickly. Jack Marder (1-3, 2 R, BB) walked to lead off the fifth and Brady hit his first homer of the season. It was a two-run shot to left field to make the score 4-2 Huntsville after the fifth.
With one out and two on in the bottom of the seventh, Mitch Haniger doubled to score Ramirez from second making the score 5-2 Stars. Huntsville added one more in the inning when Zarraga scored on a fielder's choice as the Generals tried to turn their fifth double play of the night. The twin killing was unsuccessful and the score was 6-2 Stars after the seventh.
Huntsville added one more run as Josh Prince scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to make the score 7-2.
In the ninth, Brady picked up his fourth multi-hit game on the season and his third RBI of the game with a single that scored Marder, making the final 7-3 Stars.
Reigning Southern League Pitcher of the Week Hobson pitched six strong and giving up four runs, all unearned, suffering the loss. He has not allowed an earned run over his last 19 innings pitched. Jordan Shipers (0-2, 6.10) gave up two runs in an inning of relief and Andrew Kittredge (0-0, 9.00) gave up one more in his inning of relief.
The Generals defense was good again, turning a season-high four double plays for the second night in a row. At the plate John Hicks (1-4) extended his on base streak to a team-high 12 games with a single in the second inning.
The two teams will play the finale of the five-game set Friday in Huntsville. The game is scheduled for 6:30 pm. Tyler Olson (0-1, 13.50) will make his second Double-A start for the Generals as the Stars will start Jacob Barns (0-0, 5.00).
