Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves infielder Gustavo Nunez has been placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to May 6. In corresponding moves, LHP Eric Berger has been transferred to Double-A Mississippi from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Nunez, 26, was hitting .307 with two doubles, two triples and seven RBI in 30 games for the M-Braves. Nunez was signed by the Braves as a free agent on October 30, 2013. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers on May 3, 2007. He spent five seasons in the Tigers system before being selected by the Pirates in the 2011 Rule 5 Draft.

Berger, 28, was signed by the Braves and sent to Mississippi on April 30. He gave up two earned runs in four innings out of the M-Braves bullpen before moving to Gwinnett earlier this week. Berger was traded by the Astros to Oakland on March 29. He appeared in three games at Triple-A Sacramento to start the season before being released. Berger was originally signed by Cleveland in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Arizona. He spent five years in the Indians system before being acquired by Houston in 2013.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players and 5 disabled.
