Hartford Homer Downs Sea Dogs on Saturday

Hartford, Connecticut - The Portland Sea Dogs (11-7) fell in walk-off fashion to the Hartford Yard Goats (11-7) 6-4 on Saturday night.
Matthew Lugo launched his fifth homer of the season while Marcelo Mayer, Blaze Jordan, and Eddinson Paulino all recorded multi-hit days at the plate. Angel Bastardo fired 6.0 scoreless innings while Jonathan Brand earned a hold in his Double-A debut.
The Sea Dogs would take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Jordan would score Mayer. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch from Andrew Quezada would allow Kyle Teel to score the second run of the inning.
An RBI single from Mayer would bring home Alex Binelas in the top of the second and extend a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Lugo launched his team-leading fifth homer of the season to left center field. With his second in as many days, he extended a ten-game hit streak and gave Portland a four-run lead.
Warming Bernabel would put Hartford on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer to left center field but Portland held on.
Bernabel worked a walk in the bottom of the ninth before an intentional walk for the pinch-hitter, Yanquiel Fernandez put two on. Ryan Ritter would replace him as a pinch runner before Nic Kent came to the plate. Kent would hit a three-run homer to left center field and the Yard Goats walked it off, 6-4.
RHP Bryce McGowan (1-0, 4.05 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits while walking one and striking out four. The loss was issued to RHP Felix Cepeda (0-1, 6.43 ERA) (BS, 1) after pitching 0.1 innings allowing three runs on one hit while walking two and striking out one.
The Sea Dogs return to Dunkin' Park, tomorrow, April 28th, 2024 for the series finale with the Hartford Yard Goats. First pitch for game six is slated for 1:10pm. RHP Wikelman Gonzalez (1-1, 11.12 ERA) will get the ball for Portland while Hartford will start LHP Mason Albright (0-1, 10.38 ERA).
