Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic played their final road match of the inaugural season, falling to Charlotte Independence 4-0.
In the first half, Independence had the lion's share of the chances and Cody Cropper turned every single one of them away. He scrambled to knock balls off the line on set pieces, dove to stop balls from going to the far post, he even stopped a 3-on-none attempt from Charlotte that ultimately didn't count because of a blown whistle. All in all, Cropper made six saves in the first 45 minutes. In the 42nd minute, Jose Angulo created the best chance of the half for Hartford. Angulo chased down a ball from Raymond Lee and beat his defender leaving him alone with the keeper for a chance. Angulo went for the far post but was too accurate, hitting the post and deflecting away. The two sides went into halftime scoreless.
The second half seemed like it would be much of the same until just about the one-hour mark. Abdoullie Mansally sent a beautiful cross to the other side of the field to Alex Martinez who volleyed it to the far post to open the scoring for Charlotte. Just under 15 minutes later, Elliott Hord was called for a foul in the box giving Charlotte a penalty kick. Enzo Martinez stepped up to the spot and drove the ball into the net for the second goal of the evening. Ricardo Bocanegra scored a minute later and Enzo Martinez added another goal for Charlotte in the game's final moments to seal the win.
