LAST TIME OUT:
Athletic are looking to bounce back after a defeat at the hands of Ottawa Fury last week. Fury FC hit the ground running, managing to put three goals into the net by the 18' minute mark. Hadji Barry of Ottawa clinched a brace of Penalty-kicks and teammate Christiano Francois nicked a goal for a half-time scoreline of 3-0. Hartford came out more invigorated in the second half and it showed, with Ryan Williams delivering the perfect corner that eluded the opposing keeper's reach, allowing Jose Angulo to tap home at the 65th minute. The deficit was cut to two goals briefly however, with Hadji Barry breaching the defense at the 66th minute to round off a hat-trick.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Hartford Athletic - Jose Angulo, F
After a short stint away from the pitch, Jose looks to start and score in consecutive games for the first time this season. A powerful and imposing figure at the center of the frontline, Jose is the embodiment of the ideal #9. His goal against Fury FC was a testament to that. He wriggled free from the opposition defense to perfectly meet Williams' corner kick to get Athletic back into contention. Angulo has played a key part in the offense in Athletic wins this season. It will be important that he add to his account on Saturday.
Charlotte Independence - Enzo Martinez, MF
Enzo Martinez is technically gifted in a midfielder's regard, tallying six assists for his club this season which leads the team. He has also added three goals for Independence as well. Martinez will be looking to command the middle of the park in this fixture. Against a Hartford side that typically plays with the less of the ball, (average possession of 45%) Enzo will want the ball at his feet and create chances for Charlotte Independence.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT:
Charlotte Independence enter matchday in rather vulnerable form. Their last win dates back to the 13th of July, edging past Saint Louis FC 2-1. Since then they've played ten games picking up only three of a possible thirty points (3D, 7L). The current standings have them placed in 15th place after 30 games played. Independence aspire to apply some pressure on Bethlehem Steel and Atlanta United II who sit in 13th and 14th with 30pts and 27 pts respectively. They have also been scoreless in the last two, while conceding five. Their fans will be hoping to see the goals head the other way after over two hours of play without scoring.
