Charlotte Dominates Hartford

Charlotte Independence News Release
Matthews (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team dominated Hartford Athletic 4-0 on Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews. The Independence celebrated a Fall Festival presented by Duckworth's Grill and Taphouse in front of a crowd of over 2,300.
Knotted at a scorless first half, the Independence took the majority of the quality chances leading into the second half. In the 60th minute, defender Abdoulie Mansally lofted in a back-post cross to Alex Martinez whose first-time touch launched a rocket shot into the back of the Hartford net.
The first goal would open up the flood gates for the Independence attack. In the 74th minute, forward Valentin Sabella beat his defender en route to drawing a penalty converted by Enzo Matinez. One minute later, Enzo Martinez would return the favor by finding wide-open Ricardo Bocanegra for his first goal of the season. The night was capped off by forward Jorge Herrera connecting with Enzo Martinez for an inch-perfect shot in to the bottom right corner of the Hartford net.
The Independence will hit the road for the penultimate away fixture of the 2019 season as the team travels to Talen Energy Stadium to face off against Bethlethem Steel FC. The official watch party will be held at Jack's House Soccer Bar and Event Space (1523 Elizabeth Ave. Suite 120, Charlotte NC, 28204) on Saturday, October 5th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
