Harrisburg Senators News Release
Today's Game... The Senators and New Hampshire play the second game of their holiday weekend series this afternoon. This is the only trip into New Hampshire this season by the Senators. These two teams play just seven games against one another this year and that is the fewest games the Senators will play against an opponent this year. They also play just seven against Portland. Today the Senators send RHP Kip Bouknight to the mound as he will look to even his record at three.
Last Time Out... Harrisburg had a 4-1 lead into the 7th inning but couldn't hold it and fell to New Hampshire 5-4 in 10 innings. The Sens took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a triple by Melvin Dorta (who extended his hitting streak to 11 games) and a single by Ryan Church. After New Hampshire tied the game in the second, the Senators plated two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh for a 4-1 lead. Ian Desmond doubled in a pair of runs in the fourth, and Jesus Feliciano drove in Dan DeMent with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. New Hampshire scored twice in the seventh, once in the eighth, and then the winning run in the 10th on a wild pitch. It was the fourth time this season the Sens have lost in "walk off" fashion. The loss overshadows the strong start by RHP Beltran Perez. Perez went six innings allowing just a single run while striking out nine. It was Perez's second start of the season.
Walk Off's... The Senators have enjoyed four walk-off wins at home this season. With two of their three wins against Akron over the weekend coming in walk-off fashion.
Double Dips... After not winning a game last year in any of the four doubleheader's they participated in, the Senators are now 4-2 this season. The doubleheader sweep of Akron was their first doubleheader sweep since August 5, 2004 when they took two from Reading.
Hot and Not... Melvin Dorta is batting .375 over his last 10 ten games. He is 15 x 40 with a 1 HR and 4 RBIs, and he's scored seven runs. Dan Dement has heated up over his last five games, going 7 x 20, a .350 clip, to break out of his slump. Frank Diaz has been cold as of late, going just 4 x 35 with one of the four hits being the walk-off home run last Saturday against Akron. Jesus Feliciano is just 2 x 16 over the last five games but does have his only home run of the season in that span.
Heading to DC... When Alex Escobar was called up to the Nationals over the weekend he became the third Senators player in the past two seasons to go directly from Harrisburg to Washington. Last year Ryan Zimmerman and Darrell Rasner went directly to the Nationals.
Road Trip... The Senators are playing the second game of an 11-game, 10-day road trip. This is the longest road trip of the season, and the longest trip since the 2002 season. The Senators will also play their first day/night doubleheader in several seasons on this road trip. Because of a rain-out earlier this season in New Britain, the Senators will play two games in New Britain on Wednesday.
