Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Down by four runs early, the Binghamton Mets were able to pull within one, but the Trenton Thunder got a pair of insurance runs in the late innings for a 6-3 victory at Waterfront Park Saturday. The loss is Binghamton's fifth in their last six games.

Trenton (23-25) got to B-Mets starter William Collazo early, picking up four straight hits before the lefty retired a batter. Gabe Lopez scored the game's first run on a wild pitch before Shelley Duncan drove home a run with a single and Felix Escalona hit into a double play to plate another for a 3-0 Trenton lead. The Thunder got to Collazo (3-4) for a fourth run in the second, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Lopez.

Binghamton (21-28) got within three when Corey Ragsdale opened the fifth with a single, moved to second on an errant pickoff throw by starting pitcher Philip Hughes and to third on a Ray Navarrete groundout before scoring on Wilson Batista's single to right. In the seventh, Navarrete led off with a double before Jonathan Slack followed with a one-out single, chasing Hughes (2-1) and putting runners at the corners for Batista, who scored Navarrete with a line-drive sacrifice fly to right. Two batters later, Michel Abreu scored Slack with a single through the left side, pulling Binghamton within 4-3.

However, Trenton scored the game's final two runs on Lopez's RBI single in the seventh and Omir Santos's homer in the eighth. Trenton closer Justin Pope secured the final four outs, notching his fifth save.

Sunday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game set with Trenton. Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 4.03) gets the ball for Binghamton against Trenton lefthander Danny Borrell (1-3, 4.39) Game time is 1:35 from Waterfront Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 1:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
