Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators could not hold an early 6-0 lead in an 11-8 loss to the Reading Fightin' Phils Tuesday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Six runs ties the biggest lead lost by Harrisburg (56-60) this season.

The Senators started fast by scoring four in the second inning on RBI singles by Wilmer Difo and Shawn Pleffner that sandwiched a two-run triple by Chris Bostick. Harrisburg then added two in the third on RBI singles by Pedro Severino and Difo. Reading began to chip away with a sacrifice fly in the third and a two-run homer in the fourth off Senators' starter Austin Voth. The right-hander finished with five innings pitched, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked a season-high four and struck out seven.

Harrisburg responded with a run on a Brian Goodwin sac fly in the sixth an RBI infield single by Isaac Ballou - his fourth hit of the game - in the seventh to make it 8-3, Senators. Senators reliever Wander Suero threw a perfect sixth inning with three strikeouts, but the seventh inning quickly went off the rails. The leadoff man reached on an error, and Suero struck out the next batter, but then allowed an RBI double a two-run home run and two walks before being lifted for Gilberto Mendez. He allowed four straight hits - two singles, a double and a triple - that put Reading on top, 11-8. Five runs (four earned) were charged to Suero and three earned runs were placed on Mendez' record. Nick Lee stranded a Mendez runner and recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning. The lefty then threw a scoreless eighth inning.

The Senators were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning after singles by Difo and Pleffner, but could not cash in. Ballou finished 4-for-4 with a walk while Difo was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Pleffner also contributed three hits in four at-bats. The Senators as a team finished with 16 hits and 10 men left on base.

The Senators and Reading will be back at it Wednesday night, starting at 7:05 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 6:50 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
