
Shackleford sets saves record

Stephen Shackleford made history on Tuesday night as he recorded his 25th save to be the new single-season record-holder for saves in the Reading Fightin Phils (65-50) 11-8 victory over the Harrisburg Senators (56-60). Shackleford by-passed Justin Friend, Toby Borland and Wayne Gomes who all had 24. The Fightin Phils are now on an eight-game winning streak.
Ben Lively struck out four of the first six batters he faced through the first two innings. He ran into trouble in the top of the third inning as the Senators scored four runs off him to take a 4-0 lead. He walked Pedro Severino to begin the inning then gave up a RBI single to Wilmer Difo. Chris Bostick hit a two-run triple then Shawn Pleffner hit a RBI single.
Harrisburg scored two more runs off Lively in the top of fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Severino and Difo hit RBI singles. Lively left the game after four innings as he allowed six runs off nine hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Harold Martinez hit a sacrifice fly off Austin Voth in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Senators lead to 6-1.
Nick Williams hit his first home run at FirstEnergy Stadium, a two-run home run off Voth in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Fightin Phils within three runs. Brodie Greene scored on the home run as he walked to begin the inning. Voth left the game after five innings with a 6-3 lead. The Senators tacked on another run in the top of the sixth inning as Brian Goodwin hit a sacrifice fly off Ethan Martin to take a 7-3 lead. Isaac Ballou hit a RBI single off Tom Windle in the top of the seventh inning to extend Harrisburg's lead to 8-3.
Reading exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a new season-high as they would take an 11-8 lead over the Senators. Nick Williams hit a RBI double that was followed by a two-run home run from Angelo Mora and a RBI single from Andrew Knapp. Harold Martinez hit a two-run single then Brian Pointer hit a RBI triple. Brodie Greene, who started the inning doubled in Pointer for the final run of the inning.
Tom Windle (4-5) earned the win as he allowed an unearned run in the seventh inning. Ryan O'Sullivan pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. Shackleford earned his 25th save by seeing Isaac Ballou getting tagged out a second-base for the final out of the game in the top of the ninth inning.
The Fightin Phils and Harrisburg Senators meet again on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:35 pm. Fans can view the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 7:05 pm.
