Harris Delivers Near-Perfect Outing in Sesason Opener

Toronto Argonauts News Release
TORONTO - Argonauts quarterback Trevor Harris enjoyed an outstanding 2015 regular season debut, connecting on 24 of his 27 pass attempts (88.9%) for 347 yards and three touchdowns, as the Boatmen earned a decisive 26-11 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.
Harris' 88.9% completion rate was tops amongst all signal callers in Week One. The 29-year-old Waldo, Ohio native displayed tremendous poise and composure, systematically dissecting a stout Eskimo defence en route to a clinical season-opening win.
"In all honesty, we're 1-0. That's all that we're focused on," commented Harris, graciously dismissing the magnitude of his historic opening day performance. "People put a lot of stock into one game, whether you win or lose, it's a 'What have you done for me now?' environment... We'll enjoy this and then it's on to Saskatchewan."
Equipped with a multi-faceted receiving core, Harris produced a near-perfect outing, setting new single-game career-highs for passing yards, completion percentage, passer rating and touchdowns. Simply put, Harris was locked in from the onset, hitting receivers in stride, stretching the field, and engineering methodical, calculated drives.
The former Edinboro University standout will continue to serve as the Argos' starting field general, assuming full control of the offence in the absence of future Hall of Fame pivot Ricky Ray, who remains sidelined after undergoing off-season shoulder surgery.
Saturday's matinee affair in Fort McMurray, Alberta marked Harris' second career CFL start. The Argos' fourth-year signal caller exhibited pinpoint accuracy and a calmness in the pocket that didn't go unnoticed by Argonauts bench boss Scott Milanovich.
"I thought he played extremely well... I know not many balls hit the ground," said Milanovich.
In the aftermath of Saturday's season-opening win, Harris praised the work of his veteran offensive line, crediting the boys in the trenches with keeping him upright and permitting him to scan the field with relative ease.
"Our offensive line did a great job of keeping me clean...," declared Harris, who was awarded with the Argonauts' offensive game ball. "They did a tremendous job of putting their heads on the line every single play. I appreciate them and I can't say enough about them as a whole ... They probably deserve a steak dinner."
An elated Harris spoke very fondly of SMS Equipment Stadium and the surrounding community of "Fort Mac". Harris, humbled by the outpouring of support from Argos Nation, took a moment to acknowledge the large contingent of die-hard Argonauts fans that made their way across the country to support the Double Blue as they kicked off their 2015 campaign.
"It was a good environment," stated Harris, referring to the droves of Boatmen backers that made the trip to "Fort Mac". "I really liked the field and I admired the stadium. It was great seeing a different part of God's country."
"It was awesome...," added a jubilant Harris. "We're excited to come out with a win. We're 1-0 at 'home' now."
