
Harper Leads 51s To Victory Over Beavers, 4-3

LAS VEGAS - Brett Harper went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Randy Ruiz added three hits and an RBI as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Portland Beavers 4-3 Thursday night at Cashman Field.
Harper doubled to lead off the eighth inning and then was replaced by pinch-runner Jonathon Diaz, who scored the game-winning run from second after Jason Lane reached base on a fielder's choice.
Ruiz, who doubled and scored a run in the preceding frame, knocked in the game-tying RBI single with two outs in the seventh.
Kyle Blanks gave the Beavers (33-35) the early lead with a three-run blast in the third inning that scored Sean Kazmar and Craig Stansberry, who each singled to reach base.
Las Vegas starter Davis Romero (1-2) yielded three runs on six hits, including the three-run homer by Blanks, in 4 2/3 innings.
Jeremy Hefner (NR) went 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in his Triple- A debut.
Kevin Howard hit a two-out RBI double in the fourth inning to put the 51s (28-40) on the board, then Ruiz scored from second on a single by Harper two innings later to cut the lead to, 3-2.
Jonah Bayliss (6-2) pitched two hitless innings to earn his sixth victory of the season, while Scott Patterson (2-2) gave up one run in one inning to take his second loss.
Stansberry and Mike Baxter each contributed two hits for the Beavers.
The Beavers continue their series against Las Vegas Friday night, 7:05 p.m., at Cashman Field.
NOTES: Beavers starter Hefner was transferred to Portland from Class A Lake Elsinore earlier in the day ... Hefner, who went 6-6 with a 4.16 ERA in 13 starts with the Storm this season, became the 15th pitcher to start for the Beavers this season.
