Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Four years after starring for Tulane in the College World Series, Brian Bogusevic reclaimed the hero role in June once again.

Unfortunately for Bogusevic, Cameron Maybin stole his thunder. Twice.

Maybin hit a single up the middle in the top of the 11th inning off of Express reliever Casey Daigle to bring home Gookie Dawkins for the go-ahead run in an eventual 7-6 win for New Orleans (33-36). The teams entered the inning tied at 4-4, and New Orleans took a 7-4 lead sparked by Maybin's single.

Before that, Bogusevic ripped a three-run homer with Round Rock (30-38) down 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, lining the team up for what appeared to be a 4-3 win.

But Maybin responded with a triple with one out in the top of the ninth off of Express reliever Brendan Donnelly, and then scored on a single up the middle by Gaby Sanchez, tying the game at 4-4.

Round Rock starter Josh Muecke allowed two runs on five hits over six innings Friday night, and earned a no decision thanks to the late comeback by Bogusevic.

The two runs Muecke allowed came in the third inning, when Gookie Dawkins singled through the hole at shortstop with one out, and Maybin walked to put runners at first and second. Muecke struck out Sanchez, but Andy Gonzalez ripped a double to shallow left field to score both runners.

Express third baseman Chris Johnson cut the lead in half in the fifth inning with a solo blast - his third of the year and second in the last two games - off of New Orleans starter Jarrett Santos.

New Orleans got to three runs thanks to a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning by Jai Miller that scored Dawkins from third.

Bogusevic and Mark Saccomanno hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 11th inning, but it wasn't enough to climb out of the three-run deficit Round Rock had dug itself. It was the first time during 2009 season that Express batters went back-to-back.

The two teams meet Saturday night for the third game of the series and the current home stand at 7:05 p.m. Round Rock will send right-hander Bud Norris to the mound, while New Orleans will go with right-hander Rick VandenHurk.
