HarbourCats Fall to Bells in Another Close Game
July 18, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. -- All losses are tough, some are tougher than others.
Controversial calls at critical times swung the momentum, and the score, on Saturday at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP, leaving the Victoria HarbourCats on the short end of a 6-2 result. The Bellingham Bells, defending champions who really don't need extra help, swept the series, with close calls a theme throughout.
The HarbourCats fall to 17-19, still in the playoff hunt but with less wiggle room with 18 regular season games to play.
A crowd of 1,829 took in the contest, the last before the all-star break. The HarbourCats are playing a non-league game in Nanaimo against the Pirates on Sunday.
Dustin Brashears and Aaron Stroosma hit solo homers for the Bells, who scored two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to make the game score separation seem greater than the play itself.
Bellingham also scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings. The HarbourCats put runs across in the second and fifth.
The Bells outhit the HarbourCats 12-7, with Bellingham making the game's only pair of errors.
Chase Lambert was 3-5 and Ben Polshuk was 2-2. Henry Omana took the loss on the hill, with Reagan Todd getting the win.
The HarbourCats next see league action in Bellingham on Tuesday with the start of a three-game road series, then are home to the Walla Walla Sweets Friday-Saturday-Sunday at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP.
