Altoona Curve News Release
Curve, Pa. - The Altoona Curve took game two of the three-game series against the Trenton Thunder 4-2 on Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Andy Vasquez had a stellar day at the dish, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Curve offense to a series victory. With the win, Altoona will gun for a series sweep against Trenton on Thursday night.
Vasquez started the offense engine in the third inning. After Alen Hanson drew a leadoff walk and Drew Maggi followed with a single plus a stolen base, Vasquez brought both runners home with a single to left but was thrown out attempting to take second on a throw. However, the two-run single gave Altoona a 2-0 lead.
Trenton responded with a run in the sixth inning to cut the Curve lead down to one and tied the game in the seventh. Tyler Austin collected an RBI single in the sixth, while Ben Gamel laced an RBI single to left in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Altoona reclaimed the lead while Vasquez played hero again on offense. With Hanson on third base after a walk, stolen base, and an error, the lefty went up the middle with a base hit that scored Hanson and broke the 2-2 tie. After an intentional walk to Stetson Allie, the Curve padded their lead thanks to a pinch-hit RBI single from Kelson Brown.
Nate Baker (2-0) earned the win for Altoona after he tossed 1.2 innings in relief while Cesar Cabral (0-2) suffered the loss for Trenton. Kenn Kasparek earned his team-best 11th save of the season and lowered his ERA to 0.87. Curve starter Jhonathan Ramos looked sharp through his first five innings by racking up a season-high six strikeouts but fell a strike shy of his second quality start. All told, Ramos allowed one run on four hits over 5.2 innings with two walks.
