Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - Colin Moran's bloop single to center field with two outs in the ninth inning was the only hit the Hammerheads managed all night as they lost to Palm Beach 9-0 on Tuesday.
Tyrell Jenkins (who was pitching for the first time since last July), Sam Tuivailala and Cory Baker combined to no-hit Jupiter for the first 8.2 innings of the game.
With two outs in the ninth Moran hit a shallow fly to center that fell about a yard in front of Palm Beach center fielder Charlie Tilson who was sprinting in an attempt to make the catch.
Baker would strikeout Viosergy Rosa in the next at bat to end the game and finish the one-hitter.
Adam Conley made the start for the Hammerheads and after he tossed four shutout innings to start the game, the Cardinals jumped on him in the fifth frame.
With one out Charlie Tilson placed a perfect bunt down the third base line for a single and he would move to third when Ildemaro Vargas singled to center.
Tilson would score in the next at bat when Breyvic Valera grounded out to second.
After Vargas had moved to second on the grounder, he scored when Luke Voit singled up the middle to make it 2-0.
In the next frame the Birds would put the game out of reach when they put up a seven spot. David Washington would start the scoring after two men had reached when he pulled a single into right.
After a fly out Conley threw a pitch in the dirt that got by the catcher and allowed Anthony Garcia to score with the fourth Palm Beach run. Conley would then walk Tilson and was pulled from the game.
Blake Logan would get a groundout for the second out of the inning before he allowed RBI singles to Valera and Voit to make it 6-0.
The Cardinals would continue the offensive attack when Alex Mejia hit a two-run double into the gap in left-center. Nick Martini would cap the scoring when he plated Mejia with a single up the middle.
