Mets Come up with Clutch 6-2 Win over Stone Crabs

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 16, 2014) - The St. Lucie Mets picked up right where they left off before the Florida State League All Star break - with a win.
The Mets beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 6-2 in a crucial game on Monday at Tradition Field as they head towards the finish of the FSL's first half. It was the fourth straight win for the Mets, and they drew even with Fort Myers for first place in the South Division. The Miracle and Bradenton Marauders completed their game later on Monday.
The Mets (39-29) only have two games left in the first half. Both are against the Stone Crabs on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Monday's victory, Steven Matz struck out six Crabs in six innings. He gave up six hits and two earned runs. Matz threw a season-high 103 pitches and earned his fourth win.
Paul Sewald pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his fourth hold. He struck out four.
Randy Fontanez retired all four batters he faced to pick up his 10th save of the season.
The Mets scored three runs in the second. Cam Maron delivered a two-out RBI single against Leonel Santiago to start the scoring. After Maikis De La Cruz singled to right, Eudy Pina doubled in two runs to make it 3-0.
The Crabs scored both of their runs in the fourth. They loaded the bases and Kes Carter singled to right to plate Leonardo Reginatto. Jonathan Quinonez followed with an RBI ground out to cut the Mets lead to 3-2.
Aderlin Rodriguez got a run back in the Mets half of the fourth. He drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a bloop hit by De La Cruz. Quinonez bobbled the ball in shallow right and Rodriguez took off to third. Quinonez's bad throw skipped away from third and Rodriguez came home to score.
De La Cruz drove in Brandon Nimmo with a single in the sixth to make it 5-2.
Nimmo capped off the scoring for the Mets when he doubled off of Casey Weathers in the seventh to bring home T.J. Rivera.
Santiago took the loss for the Crabs. He scattered eight hits and five runs in six innings.
Nimmo went 2 for 3 with a triple, double, walk, RBI and two runs scored for the Mets.
