This will be the first pre-season game for the Hamilton Bulldogs as they battle the Binghamton Senators in the first of three pre-season games between the two clubs. Last season, the Bulldogs were crowned the North Division and Western Conference regular season champions as they amassed a record of 52-17-3-8. In the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs, Hamilton made it to the Western Conference Finals where the 'Dogs lost in seven games to the Texas Stars. The Bulldogs played the Senators twice in 2009-2010, earning a 1-1-0-0 record. The 'Dogs lost 2-1 to the Senators on November 6th, 2009 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec before heading to Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario on November 8th, 2009 and defeating the B-Sens 1-0. Hamilton has an all-time record of 11-6-1-1-1 against the Binghamton Senators. The highest point producer from the 2009-2010 Binghamton Senators that is currently on the B-Sens roster is left wing Kaspars Daugavins, who recorded 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists) in 72 games last year. The Bulldogs leading scorer from last season, David Desharnais, returns to the Bulldogs this season after setting a franchise record last year for most points in the regular season with 78 (27 goals, 51 assists) in 60 games. Desharnais also led the 'Dogs and set a franchise record for most points in one post-season with 23 (10 goals, 13 assists) in 19 playoff games. There are currently five Ontario natives listed on the Binghamton roster: RW Jason Bailey (Nepean), LW Corey Cowick (Gloucester), C Justin Donati (Oakville), LW Mike Hoffman (Kitchener) and former Bulldogs D Andre Benoit (St. Albert).
Quick Notes
- The Bulldogs broke 31 franchise records, tied six club records and broke one AHL record during the 2009-2010 regular season. In the post-season, Hamilton broke 12 post-season franchise records and tied another 11.
- The Bulldogs broke the AHL record for most points earned on the road in one season as they recorded 60 points away from Copps Coliseum in 2009-2010.
- Bulldogs new Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth comes to the 'Dogs from the Atlanta Thrashers where he spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the Thrashers, Cunneyworth was head coach of the Bulldogs North Division rival, the Rochester Americans for seven seasons.
- G Robert Mayer won the ECHL's Kelly Cup Championship last season as a member of the Cincinnati Cyclones. Mayer was named a co-MVP of the playoffs (alongside fellow Cyclones goaltender Jeremy Smith) as he posted a 6-1 record, three shutouts, a 1.54 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage. Mayer played in all five games of the Finals, going 4-1 with one shutout.
- D Brendon Nash scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Montreal's 4-3 pre-season win over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, September 26th. Nash was signed as a free agent by the Canadiens on March 30th, 2010 after playing the past four seasons at Cornell University.
- Senators D Andre Benoit played in 78 games for Hamilton last season, earning 36 points (six goals, 30 assists). Benoit is the regular season all-time leader in points by a Bulldogs defencemen with 93 and goals by a 'Dogs defenceman with 23.
