Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons assigned forward Colin McDonald and defensemen Taylor Chorney, Alex Plante and Jeff Petry to Oklahoma City earlier today. The number of players assigned to Oklahoma City by the Oilers now stands at 17.

McDonald was one of the first two players signed by the Barons this summer. The 6-3, 205-pounder from Hartford, Conn. was a 2nd round draft choice (51st overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He has played all but three of his games as a professional with the Oilers American League affiliate. During McDonald's four-year career professional career, he has recorded 70 points (34-36-70) in 229 games.

The Barons are preparing for their Blue/White Intersquad game tonight at the Cox Convention Center. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m. and admission is free. Tonight also marks the first opportunity for Barons Season Seat Holders to pick up their ticket booklets.

Following the intersquad game tonight, the Barons next game will be a preseason contest against the Texas Stars, AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas. Faceoff for that contest is 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on the Barons Flagship station, 96.1 KXY and online at KXY.com. Jim Byers will handle the play-by-play from the Cedar Park Center.

The four players recently assigned are expected to join the team Monday.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 85 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the ninth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America.
