
Habs assign a dozen to Dogs

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the club has assigned 12 players to the Hamilton Bulldogs. The players who will report to Hamilton are goaltender Cedrick Desjardins, forwards Mathieu Aubin, Jimmy Bonneau, Matt D'Agostini, Michael Lambert, Francis Lemieux, Eric Manlow, Duncan Milroy, Gregory Stewart and Cory Urquhart, as well as defenceman Andrew Archer and Jon Gleed.
Desjardins, 20, appeared in 41 games for the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL) last season, posting a record of 28-10-0 with a 2.95 goals-against average, and a 0.906 save percentage. The native of Edmunston, New Brunswick helped the Remparts capture the 2006 Memorial Cup.
Aubin, a 20-year-old native of Sorel, Quebec, produced 103 points (47 goals, 53 assists) and 63 penalty minutes in 70 games last season for the Lewiston MAINEiacs (QMJHL).
Bonneau, a 21-year-old native of Baie-Comeau, Quebec, earned six points (one goal, five assists) and 137 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Long Beach Ice Dogs (ECHL) in 2005-06.
D'Agostini, a 19-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, played 66 games for the Guelph Storm (OHL) in 2005-06 and ranked second on the team with 79 points (25 goals, 54 assists).
Lambert, 22, skated in 39 contests with the Bulldogs in 2005-06, recording 17 points (10 goals, 7 assists) and 25 penalty minutes. The native of Trois Rivieres, Quebec, also appeared in 20 games for Long Beach, collecting 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists) and 16 penalty minutes.
Lemieux, a 22-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, played in 67 games for Hamilton last season, posting 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) and 76 penalty minutes.
Milroy, a 23-year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta, posted 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) and 63 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Bulldogs last season.
Manlow, a 31-year-old native of Belleville, Ontario, ranked third on the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) with 73 points (25 goals, 48 assists) in 80 games. He signed a two-year American Hockey League Contract with Hamilton on July 10, 2006.
Stewart, a 20-year-old native of Kitchener, Ontario appeared in 60 games for the Peterborough Petes (OHL), posting 39 points (24 goals, 15 assists) and 83 penalty minutes.
Urquhart, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, played two games for Hamilton last season, producing one assist and two penalty minutes. In 67 games with Long Beach, the 21-year-old collected 52 points (26 goals, 26 assists) and 42 penalty minutes.
Archer, a 23-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, was limited to 42 games with Hamilton in 2005-06 due to injuries and recorded three assists along with 62 penalty minutes.
Gleed, a 22-year-old native of Milton, Ontario, spent last season with Cornell University (ECAC) and recorded eight points (one goal, seven assists) and 26 penalty minutes.
The Hamilton Bulldogs open their 11th annual training camp on Saturday, September 23 at the newly-renovated Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena, located at 25 Hester Street on Hamilton Mountain. Training camp will run from Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 until Thursday, October 5th, 2006. All on-ice training camp sessions will be open to the public.
In addition, the Bulldogs will play four exhibition games prior to the regular season. The 'Dogs will open the pre-season on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:30 p.m., when they will travel to the Oshawa Civic Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, to take on the Toronto Marlies. Hamilton's second pre-season game will take place on Friday, September 29th at 7:30 p.m., when they will visit the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse, New York, where they will combat the Crunch. The Bulldogs third pre-season contest is set for Saturday, September 30th at 4:00 p.m., when they will meet the Toronto Marlies at the Southwood Arena at the Woodstock Community Complex in Woodstock, Ontario. The 'Dogs fourth, and final pre-season match-up is scheduled for Sunday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m., when they will battle the Syracuse Crunch, at Niagara Falls Memorial Arena in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will open the 2006-2007 season on Friday, October 6th versus their North Division rival, the Manitoba Moose.
