Gwinnett Defeats Indianapolis, 2-1

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Indianapolis Indians on Wednesday night at Coolray Field. Indians starting pitcher Jeremy Powell carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning but it was broken up by G-Brave Barbaro Canizares. Gwinnett will look for the series win tomorrow night. Gwinnett (24-28) remains in second place in the International League South - 5.5 games behind Durham in first place. Indianapolis (27-26) remains in third place in the IL West and 7 games behind first place Columbus.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 7th inning, Braves outfielder Mitch Jones hit his 10th home run of the season, a 2-run shot to left that put the G-Braves ahead of the Indians, 2-1.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Todd Redmond (5-5), who threw his first no-hitter and the first in G-Braves history in his last outing on 5/28 at Louisville, struck out 10 in the victory. Craig Kimbrel earned his 8th save of the season, pitching a scoreless 9th.

At the plate: Canizares (1-for-3, R) hit his first triple of the season in the bottom of the 7th inning. It was his first triple since August 3, 2009 at Columbus. Jones went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Matt Young went 1-for-3 with a walk.

The opposition:

On the Mound: A late switch with originally scheduled starter Brad Lincoln, RHP Jeremy Powell struck out 3 in 7.0 IP.

At the plate: Former Gwinnett Brave Brandon Jones (1-for-3, R) hit his first triple of the season. Catcher Erik Kratz went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

On Deck: Gwinnett takes on Indianapolis Thursday in the series finale at Coolray Field at 7:05 p.m. LHP Jose Ortegano (2-0, 2.08 ERA) will start for the Braves. Indianapolis will counter with RHP Brad Lincoln (5-2, 3.47 ERA).
