Gwinnett Braves Homestand Highlights for June 14-21
June 12, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves return home to Coolray Field for an eight-day, nine-game homestand that will begin with a doubleheader on Thursday, June 14 and conclude on Thursday, June 21. The G-Braves will host the Columbus Clippers (June 14-17) for five games and the International League West leading Indianapolis Indians (June 18-21) for four games.
After leading the IL South for most of the first two months of the season, the G-Braves currently reside in second place in the division, trailing first place Charlotte by 2.5 games. Gwinnett began the month of June at 2-8 as part of their recent downward trend, but received catcher J.C. Boscan and outfielder Jose Constanza back from Atlanta on Sunday and followed with an 11-8 victory at Pawtucket on Monday night.
Gwinnett is wrapping up a 10-game road trip that took them to Charlotte for two games (1-1), Lehigh Valley for four (0-4) and Pawtucket for four more (2-1 with one game remaining). Left-handers Jose Lugo and Yohan Flande have each posted wins on the trip, while right-hander Julio Teheran, prior to a one-game Major League call-up, threw his first career complete game in a win at Charlotte on June 3. Teheran, Atlanta's top prospect and the defending IL Most Valuable Pitcher, allowed a run on seven hits over his career-high nine frames to lead the G-Braves to a 5-1 win. The team went on to lose the next five games before recovering with a 5-4 win on June 9 at Pawtucket.
The upcoming homestand, Gwinnett's longest of June, includes a "Dudes vs. Foods" eating contest on June 14, WAGA Fox 5 Friday Fireworks on June 15, a Rally Towel giveaway on June 16 and plenty more.
The Chipper Jones Father's Day Package remains on sale at the Coolray Field Box Office.
