Rochester Red Wings News Release

TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2012 w VICTORY FIELD

GAME #65 - ROAD GAME #35 - 7:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (29-35) at INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (37-27)

RHP SAMUEL DEDUNO (0-1, 3.94) vs. RHP RICK VANDENHURK (3-0, 1.46)

GOING FOR A SPLIT: The Rochester Red Wings tonight continue their 8-game, 9-day roadtrip with the finale of a 4-game series at Indianapolis (Pirates). The Red Wings tomorrow will enjoy their 3rd originally-scheduled offday before opening a 4-game series at Louisville (Reds) Thursday. The Red Wings return home Monday for an 8-game stay with a pair of 4-game series vs. Durham (Rays) and Charlotte (White Sox).

a Buffalo Bills Nick Barnett and Brian Moorman will sign autographs prior to Monday's game at Frontier Field from 6:00-6:50 p.m.

NOT-SO SWEET SIXTEEN: The Red Wings yesterday lost 16-0 at Indianapolis for their worst defeat since dropping a 21-4 decision August 15, 2000 vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox). Jin-Ho Cho was the winner while Rick Krivda, who led the Wings with 11 wins that year, took the loss after allowing 7 runs (4 earned) in 5.1 innings. The PawSox scored 11 runs in the 9th to extend the blowout. Wings' relievers Jim Corsi (7) and Francisco Matos (4) allowed those runs.

a Last night's 16-0 setback was the Red Wings' worst shut-out loss since at least 1980 (there is only so much time in the day to look back at the team's scrapbooks with newspaper box scores).

a Yesterday marked the International League's biggest shutout since April 6, 2007, when Syracuse (Blue Jays) won 16-0 at Durham.

a The 16 runs allowed are Rochester's most since an 18-3 loss vs. Durham July 21, 2011.

a The Red Wings yesterday were shut out for the 6th time, the 5th time in a 9-inning game. Of note, Rochester lost 11-0 at Syracuse (Nationals) on May 12. Only Durham (9) and Indianapolis (8) have been shut out more times in the IL, although Buffalo (Mets), Empire State (Yankees), and Norfolk (Orioles) also have suffered 6 shut-out defeats.

LET'S NOT DO THIS AGAIN: The Red Wings have lost back-to-back games for the first time since a 4-game losing streak May 25-28. They have given up 24 runs in the 2 games, their most for any 2-game stretch since allowing 25 July 20-21, 2011 vs. Durham.

a Despite losing 2 in a row, the Red Wings have still won 4 of their last 6, 6 of their last 9, 7 of their last 11, and 10 of their last 14. The Wings are 15-12 in their last 27 games beginning May 15 and are 20-19 beginning May 3.

a Rochester's 15-12 record beginning May 15 is tied for the 5th best in the IL in that time. The list before start of play today:

Rank Team Record Winning %

1. Charlotte 18-8 .692

2. Empire State 18-11 .621

3. Pawtucket 15-11 .577

Lehigh Valley 15-11 .577

5. Rochester 15-12 .556

Indianapolis 15-12 .556

a Samuel Deduno tonight looks to become the first Red Wings' starter other than Liam Hendriks to earn a win since Luke French was victorious in the first game of a June 2 doubleheader vs. Columbus (Indians). Hendriks has 2 wins in that time.

EXTRA! EXTRA!: The Red Wings have recorded at least one extra-base hit in 38 consecutive games, their longest such streak since July 31-September 5, 2009, when they had a 38-game streak. Rochester last registered an extra-base hit in at least 39 straight games June 13-July 29, 2009, when they had a 43-game streak.

a Rochester yesterday got a 2nd-inning double from Wilkin Ramirez to keep the streak alive.

a The Red Wings' 38-game extra-base hit streak is the longest active streak in the IL. Toledo has the 2nd-longest current streak at 20 games.

RISPY BUSINESS: The Red Wings are just 1-for-19 (.053) with runners in scoring position in the first 3 games of this series at Indianapolis, including 15 straight at-bats without a hit. Rene Rivera's RBI single in the 6th on Saturday is the lone such hit in the last 3 games. Rochester is batting .186 (13-for-70) with men in scoring position in June. Five of the 13 hits came Friday vs. Norfolk.

a Rochester is hitting .224 (117-for-523) with runners in scoring position overall, the 3rd-lowest mark in the IL. Only Louisville (.208, 118-for-566) and Durham (.211, 110-for-521) have lower averages.

a The Red Wings rank last in the league with 205 runs scored, 24 behind the next closest team Durham, which has 229.

THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 1962, Milwaukee Braves Hank and Tommie Aaron homer in the same game for the first time en route to a 15-2 win vs. Los Angeles...they would go on to turn the trick 3 times that season.

CALLING ALL STARS: Voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the IL and the Pacific Coast League, will be played July 11 at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field. Fans can vote by visiting RedWingsBaseball.com and clicking on the "Fan Zone" tab through June 22. Leading Red Wings candidates are Matt Carson, who leads the team with a .284 batting average, 56 hits, 16 doubles, 19 RBI, 82 total bases, 24 walks, and 59 games played; and Anthony Slama, who has a 0.40 ERA, a team-leading 9 saves, and 37 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. He is currently on the 7-Day Disabled List with a right leg contusion.
