
Gwinnett Braves Add RHP Mitchell Boggs

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves announced today the addition of right-hander Mitchell Boggs to the club's 25-man roster. The Atlanta Braves recently signed Boggs to a minor league contract.
Boggs, 31, signed as a free agent with Boston on January 5 and appeared in five Spring Training games for the Red Sox, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (4 ER in 4.0 IP). He was released by Boston on March 26.
A native of Dalton, GA, Boggs was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2005 June draft out of the University of Georgia. He pitched in 232 games for the Cardinals over six seasons from 2008-13, going 13-15 with a 4.15 ERA (142 ER in 308.0 IP) and six saves. He was purchased by Colorado on July 9, 2013 and pitched in nine games for the Rockies, going 0-0 with a 3.12 ERA (3 ER in 8.2 IP) in his last Major League stint.
Boggs is 13-15 with a 4.12 ERA (145 ER in 316.2 IP) and six saves in 241 career Major League games, including 15 starts. He has also made 17 appearances in the MLB Postseason, all with St. Louis from 2009-12, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (7 ER in 16.1 IP). He was a member of the Cardinals' World Series Championship team in 2011.
Boggs spent all of the 2014 season in the minors, including stints in the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants organizations. He went a combined 3-4 with an 8.29 ERA (47 ER in 51.0 IP) and one save in 37 games between Triple-A Charlotte, the rookie-level Arizona League Giants and Triple-A Fresno.
With the addition of Boggs, Gwinnett's active roster stands at 25 players.
The Gwinnett Braves (3-7) open a four-game series against the Norfolk Tides (7-4) tonight at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz (0-1, 2.08) starts for the G-Braves, while the Tides counter with right-hander Mike Wright (1-0, 2.79). Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM and WSBRadio.com.
