Rochester Red Wings News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - Rochester Red Wings left-handed pitcher Pat Dean has been named International League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.

This week left-hander Pat Dean made his first two starts at the Triple-A level since 2013. He combined to toss 12.0 innings of one-run, six-hit baseball while accumulating an IL-best fifteen strikeouts along the way.

Dean defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Tuesday, holding the Yankees top affiliate to one run on four hits and two walks in 6.0 innings. He struck out eight in the 3-1 Red Wings triumph.

Dean returned to the hill Sunday afternoon in Pawtucket where he held the defending Governors' Cup champions to just two hits in 6.0 scoreless innings. After the PawSox loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, Dean did not allow a runner to second base while retiring 18 of the final 20 batters he faced with seven strikeouts. Dean departed with a 2-0 lead but a late-inning Red Sox rally spoiled his second win.

In eight career starts as a Triple-A pitcher, Dean is 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA.

The 25-year-old is in his sixth season as a professional. He was Minnesota's third-round pick in 2010 out of Boston College. He spent the entire 2014 season with Double-A New Britain, posting an 8-9 record with a 4.81 ERA. Dean is a native of Waterbury, Connecticut.

Dean is the first Red Wing to earn the honor since Trevor May went 2-0 while allowing no runs in 12.0 IP from May 26-June 1 last season.
