San Jose Barracuda News Release
San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (1-2-2-0) squandered a two-goal third-period lead for the second consecutive game, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Henderson Silver Knights (5-1-0-0) on Wednesday night at Tech CU Arena.
In the loss, Justin Bailey (one goal, one assist), Danil Guschin (one goal, one assist), and Leon Gawanke (two assists) all recorded multiple points and Georgi Romanov made a career-high 37 saves.
In the first, just 3:23 into the frame, the Barracuda opened the scoring when Bailey got to a loose puck down the right wing and centered a pass to an uncovered Gushchin (1) who ripped in his first of the year, extending his point streak to three games (1+5=6). The Knights would find a way to tie the score off a faceoff by Brendon Brisson (3) at 12:07, but at 15:45, Radim Simek, in his season debut, wired a pass to the far right post from the left wing and Ozzy Wiesblatt (1) drove it home for his first of the season to give San Jose back its lead.
In the second, the Knights put 19 shots on net, but Romonov was perfect, turning them all aside, and with just 23 seconds left in the period, Bailey (3) ripped in a shot from the slot as he pulled up on a dime and was able to shed Knights defender Layton Ahac.
In the third, the Knights would cut the lead down to one just 32 seconds into the period as Jakub Demek (1) notched his first of his AHL career. Then, after the Barracuda took its fourth consecutive minor penalty, Byron Froese (3) would tip in the equalizer. Despite the Barracuda going on the power play at at 10:26, the game would go to overtime and for the second straight game, Henderson would win it in the extra session as Froese (4) would score again, his 15th career goal against the Barracuda.
The Barracuda are back on the ice on Sat., Oct. 28 (6 p.m.) against the Coachella Valley Firebirds as they'll transform into the Tigres Del Mar and celebrate Latinx and Hispanic heritage. Join us at Tech CU Arena for a Día de los Muertos block party presented by La Patrona Cocina Mexicana, which will feature food trucks, face painters, Mexican wrestlers taking photos, and much more.
