Iowa Wild News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Jesper Wallstedt turned in a stellar performance at Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday night and turned aside 31 shots to secure his second AHL shutout as the Iowa Wild beat the Chicago Wolves 1-0. Nick Swaney scored Iowa's only goal in the win.
Iowa got on the scoreboard just 2:21 into the contest while on the man advantage. After Jake Lucchini snapped a cross-ice pass to Nic Petan in the right circle, Petan fired a shot that deflected off the end boards. Swaney corralled the loose puck and deposited it past Keith Kinkaid (21 saves) to make the score 1-0.
The Wild carried the one-goal lead and a 9-4 shot advantage into the first intermission.
Iowa and Chicago played a back-and-forth middle frame, but neither team was able to break through offensively. The Wolves came inches from tying the game midway through the period when Isaac Ratcliffe squeezed a shot through Wallstedt, but Brenden Miller pulled the puck off the goal line.
Chicago outshot Iowa 20-18 through 40 minutes.
The Wolves followed up a 16-shot second period with 11 shots in the third, but Wallstedt stood tall to deny every Chicago chance and close out the shutout.
Chicago finished with a 31-22 lead in the shot count. Iowa went 1-for-3 on the man advantage and held the Wolves scoreless on four power play opportunities.
Iowa travels to BMO Center to take on the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
