Guelph Storm News Release
This past weekend the Storm played 3 games in less than 48 hours facing off against the Erie Otters on Friday night and the Plymouth Whalers two times in as many days. Friday night's game against the Erie Otters was the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans were forced to hold onto their Teddy bears until just over the midway mark of the third period when Jamie Arniel scored his 14th of the season. The Storm outshot their opponents 27-16, but lost the contest 2-1. Saturday night Guelph traveled to Plymouth for the front end of a home and home. Unfortunately they lost both match-ups to the older and stronger Plymouth Whalers. Saturday night the Storm were leading heading into the third period, but the Whalers scored four unanswered goals in the final frame to solidify the win. On Sunday afternoon, the Storm were looking to regroup and build some momentum going into next weekend, but came up short losing to the Whalers 4-0 at home. Failing to pick up a single point this weekend, the Storm dropped to 12-13-1-3, but remain in fourth place, four points behind the Owen Sound Attack.
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending December 3rd)
Matt Kennedy- The Shanty Bay native finished the week with one goal and one assist for two points in three games. Through 25 games this season, Kennedy has 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. The first -year forward was held off the scoresheet to start the week against the Erie Otters. On Saturday night in Plymouth against the Whalers, the 17 year old recorded his second power play goal of the year and assisted on the first goal of the night in a 5-3 loss against the Whalers. Kennedy's two-point effort was the second multi-point game of his OHL career. Sunday afternoon in the back end of a home and home, Kennedy was among the best of the Storm forwards in a 4-0 loss. Up next, Kennedy and the rest of the Guelph Storm face off against the Owen Sound Attack 7:00 pm on Friday night at the GSEC.
Friday December 8th: Owen Sound Attack at Guelph Storm, 7:00 pm on Rogers Sportsnet
Saturday December 9th: Guelph Storm at Owen Sound Attack, 7:30 pm
The Owen Sound Attack charge into the "Eye of the Storm" on Friday, December 9th for a 7:00 pm start. This will be the front end of a home and home that sees Guelph travel to Owen Sound the following night. These two contests mark the 3rd and 4th time these two teams have faced off against each other this season. Guelph is 2-0 in the season series thus far this year as the Storm defeated the Attack 4-3 back on opening night and 4-2 in Owen Sound on October 25th. In the home opener, Drew Doughty was awarded with the first star of the night recording a goal and an assist. The second match-up saw the Storm travel to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on October 25th, beating the Attack 4-2 in their home building. Luke Pither scored two goals on the night and was awarded with the second star of the game. These two teams meet up again five more times this year with the next home game on Januray 19t h. The Attack currently sit in third place in the Midwest division, four points ahead of the Storm.
Sunday December 10th : Guelph Storm at Toronto St. Michael's Majors, 2:00 pm
The Guelph Storm travel to Toronto to take on the St. Michael's Majors on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Sunday's game marks the first time these two teams will have faced off against each other this season. The next and final contest takes place on January 5th in Guelph as the Majors visit the GSEC for a 7:30 pm game time. Leading the way for the Majors this season is Matt Caira, the 18 year old has 10 goals and 27 assists in 40 games played.
Guelph Storm and the World Junior Hockey Championship
Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), announced on Monday that 38 of Canada's best junior-aged hockey players (born in 1987 or later) have been invited to take part in Canada's National Junior Selection Camp from December 10-15, 2006 at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, AB. Guelph Storm defencemen Ryan Parent and Drew Doughty were among the 38 players invited to the camp. Parent and Doughty will be released from the Storm, to Team Canada, following the game against the Owen Sound Attack on Dec. 9th. They will travel and report to camp in Calgary on Sunday, December 10th, in time for meetings and the first ice sessions on the 10th.
Guelph Storm forward Rafael Rotter was released yesterday from the Storm to play for Team Austria in the upcoming Under 20 World Junior Championships in Torre Italy from December 11th to the 17th. Rotter will miss six Storm games while he is gone beginning with the December 8th game versus the Owen Sound Attack. The 19 year old will be back with his Storm teammates after the Christmas break. Rotter will be playing in Division 1, Group B against France, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan and Norway. Team Austria's schedule is as follows:

Norway vs. Austria - December 14th at 1:00pm
France vs. Austria - December 15th at 1:00pm

Joe Underwood wins Academic Award
Guelph Storm defenseman Joe Underwood received the Storm's second Monthly Achievement Award on Friday night during the first intermission of the match-up between the Erie Otters. Joe achieved a score of 33.75 out of 35 showing great success in Math, Religion and Elite Athlete Personal Life Management. He was awarded with a $100.00 cheque from Storm Trackers Fan Club President Bill Scott and Storm Education Consultant Donna Rawbone during the first intermission of Friday night's match-up between the Erie Otters and the Storm.

Guelph Storm and Dave Barr Agree to Contract Extension
The Guelph Storm Hockey Club is pleased to announce hat the contract of General Manager / Head Coach Dave Barr has been extended through the 2009/2010 season. Barr's previous agreement would have expired following the 2007/08 campaign. Originally hired as General Manager of the organization prior to the 2003/04 season, Barr accepted the dual role of GM / Head Coach before 2004/05. The 2009/10 would be Barr's seventh season as GM and sixth season as Head Coach.
