
Guelph beats Otters in shootout

GUELPH, Ont. - Brandon Buck sparked a third period comeback with two goals as the Guelph Storm rallied from four goals down in the third period to post a 6-5 shootout win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,436 at the Sleeman Centre. The shootout loss, combined with Sarnia's shootout victory against the Owen Sound Attack means the Otters will finish seventh in the Western Conference and meet the London Knights in the opening round of the 2009 OHL Playoffs. The series will begin with the first two games in London on March 20th and 21st. Games 3 and 4 will be held at the Tullio Arena on March 25th and 26th. Michael Latta and Peter Holland also scored in the third-period comeback whiel Tyler Melanson netted the other Guelph goal. Matt Kennedy collected three assists for the Storm as they improved to 34-25-4-3 on the season. Denis Hollenstein scored the only goal in the shootout. Zack Torquato paced the Otters with a goal and three assists while Greg McKegg netted a pair. Josh Sidwell and Ryan O'Reilly rounded on the scoring for the Otters, who lost for the second straight time to drop to 32-30-3-1 on the season. Erie led 2-0 after one and 5-1 heading into the third. The Storm out shot the Otters 61-42 in the game as Jaroslav Janus took the loss. The three stars of the game were 1. Buck; 2. Torquato and 3. Kennedy.
The next Otters home games take place tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday at the Tullio Arena. Tomorrow it's the Otters and the Kitchener Rangers in a 7 p.m. start. All fans into the game will receive a free menu item courtesy of Taco Bell. Sunday it's the Otters and the Storm in a special 4:30 p.m. start. It's Fan Appreciation Day presented by Erie Business Center and Green Prosthetics as the Otters celebrate St. Patrick's Day by wearing green jerseys and the two teams will compete on green ice!
