Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors started off the weekend on a positive note at home, as the Majors defeated the visiting Niagara IceDogs 2-1 in overtime play tonight. As a result, the Majors record shifts to 38-26-1-2 on the year.
The 1st period was scoreless while the Majors were outshot by the IceDogs, 8-9.
Niagara got on the board with a goal coming from Marco Insam 13:39 into the 2nd period to make it 1-0. Freddie Hamilton and Andrew Agozzino were the helpers.
The Majors came back in the 3rd period, as Blake Parlett produced the tie-breaker 10:44 into the frame on a man-advantage, to send the game into sudden death overtime. Mike Pelech got the sole assist.
Then, Cameron Gaunce got the game-winning goal in the extra frame at 3:56 (power-play), off of passes from Jared Gomes and Pelech, to secure the win for Mississauga.
Chris Carrozzi started between the pipes for the Majors and made 26 saves while Jeremy Smith blocked 27 shots for the IceDogs. Mississauga went 2 for 4 on the power-play, while Niagara closed out 0 for 10 on the night. The stars were Gaunce (1st), Smith (2nd) and Russo (3rd).
Mississauga concludes the regular season with a final contest against the Sudbury Wolves this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. It will be Tim Hortons Fan Appreciation Day, and Majors players will be available for autographs after the game. It will also be Armenian Heritage Day at the game.
