Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Santa Cruz Warriors guard Damion Lee has signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks, the team announced today. Lee joins Antonius Cleveland (Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks) and Georges Niang (Utah Jazz) as the third Santa Cruz player to earn a GATORADE Call-Up this season, the most for the franchise since Hilton Armstrong, Seth Curry and Dewayne Dedmon earned Call-Ups during the 2013-14 NBA G League season.

Since January 31, Lee has averaged 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 11 games, shooting 53.9 percent from the field (69-of-128 FG), 40.9 percent from three (18-of-44 3FG) and 91.2 percent from the free throw line (52-of-57 FT). The second-year guard out of the University of Louisville began the 2017-18 season rehabbing from a left ACL tear, returning to action on November 10 to play in 37 games (12 starts) with a 15.6 point scoring average on 44.7 percent from the field (190-of-424 FG).

"Damion Lee earned this Call-Up to the Atlanta Hawks through his hard work and determination to come back stronger from his injury," said Santa Cruz Warriors General Manager Kent Lacob. "It's been one of the highlights of the season to see him return to the court and grow into one of our team leaders and offensive catalysts."

A Baltimore, Maryland native, Lee was selected last month to the USA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Team, logging 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 33 minutes in wins over Cuba and Puerto Rico. Originally acquired by the Warriors in a three-team trade with the Maine Red Claws and Agua Caliente Clippers in August 2017, Lee averaged 17.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 16 games (all starts) with Maine.

Lee played four seasons at Drexel University before spending his redshirt senior season at Louisville in 2015-16 as a graduate transfer, where he started all 30 games and scored 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.6 minutes per game.

The Santa Cruz Warriors roster currently stands at 12 players. The Warriors will complete a two-game Texas road trip this week before returning to Kaiser Permanente Arena to finish the regular season on a three-game homestand, beginning on Sunday, March 18 against the Northern Arizona Suns.
