Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl have announced the hiring of KRISTIN SURLES as Director of Community Relations. Among other responsibilities, Surles will coordinate Grrrowl fundraisers, auctions, player appearances, and donations made to Center Ice Charities, the charitable arm of the BI-LO Center and the Greenville Grrrowl.

"We're very excited to have Kristin on board," said Ed Rubinstein, President of the Grrrowl. "She's already contributed great ideas to enhance the Grrrowl's visibility in the Greenville community."

Surles, 25, interned at the BI-LO Center from August of 2004 through March of 2005. She worked with current Grrrowl General Manager Ryan Stewart on Greenville's "Christmas Tree Fundraiser" last December. The program gave a fully decorated Christmas Tree to a local family, with furniture, clothing, blankets, gift certificates and over $1000 in toys also being donated.

From 1997-2000, Surles worked at the Golden Strip YMCA in Simpsonville, SC. While there, she assisted in the nursery, managed the after-school program, was a site-director, and ran the Campers in Leadership Training program. After serving as head of the Y-Teen Leaders, Surles was named the YMCA's Teen Director in 1999.

A lifetime resident of Greenville, Surles graduated Hillcrest High School and went on to North Greenville College and Greenville Tech. Besides her time at the BI-LO Center and the YMCA, Surles has also worked as a legal assistant and a bartender in the Greenville area.

Center Ice Charities is an endowment fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Greenville. It was created to be the charitable arm of the BI-LO Center, a publicly owned sports and entertainment facility in Greenville, SC and the anchor tenant, the Greenville Grrrowl. Center Ice Charities' mission is to identify and assist with philanthropic needs in the Upstate South Carolina area that made the BI-LO Center and the Greenville Grrrowl possible.
