ECHL shuffles Wranglers division

Las Vegas, NV - The ECHL on Thursday announced the division and conference alignments and the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs which were both unanimously approved by the ECHL Board of Governors at its Annual Meeting on June 21-22.

The ECHL and the Wranglers welcome the Phoenix Roadrunners, the Stockton Thunder and the Utah Grizzlies to the league in 2005-06. The ECHL will have 27 teams playing in 16 states and British Columbia beginning October 21 and ending April 8. Every team begins the season with the goal of winning the Patrick J. Kelly Cup, presented annually to the league postseason champion and won in 2005 by the Trenton Titans.

Las Vegas will continue their division rivalries with the Idaho Steelheads, Alaska Aces and the Victoria Salmon Kings. The Wranglers also welcome new division rivals with Utah and Phoenix in the West. The top four teams in the division will make the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the one seed playing the four seed and the two seed playing the three seed. The winners advance to meet in the West Division Finals. The West Division Champion and the Pacific Division Champion will play in the National Conference Finals, with the winner going to the Kelly Cup Finals. All series will be a best-of-seven.
