San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The ECHL on Thursday announced the division and conference alignments as well as the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs, which were both unanimously approved by the ECHL Board of Governors at its Annual Meeting on June 21-22.

With the addition of the Phoenix Roadrunners, Stockton Thunder and Utah Grizzlies, the ECHL will have 27 teams in 2005-06, playing in 16 states and British Columbia beginning Oct. 21. Those 27 teams will be divided into two conferences (National and American) and four divisions (Pacific, West, North and South).

The Gulls, remaining in the National Conference, will now be in the Pacific Division, which comprises all five of the ECHL's California teams. San Diego joins the Long Beach Ice Dogs, Bakersfield Condors, Fresno Falcons and Thunder - formerly the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.

The National Conference will also contain the West Division, which features long-time rivals the Idaho Steelheads and Alaska Aces. Old divisional foes the Las Vegas Wranglers and Victoria Salmon Kings will also play in the West Division, along with Phoenix and Utah
