August 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Greenville Grrrowl General Manager Ryan Stewart announced Friday that the team has acquired the rights to JOHN SNOWDEN (F) in a three-team trade involving the Texas Wildcatters and Alaska Aces. Snowden comes from Texas, where he scored 37 goals last season, good for third-best in the ECHL.
The trade sent former Grrrowl forward COLIN SHIELDS to Alaska, with the Aces dealing defensman RYAN MOREN to Greenville. Moren was then traded to Texas, along with future considerations, in exchange for Snowden's rights.
"We're extremely pleased to get this deal done," said Stewart. "John is a proven goal scorer at this level, he's a team guy who plays with an edge every night, we know he'll gel nicely with the nucleus of our team."
The 23-year old Snowden played his first two professional seasons in Texas, where he led the Wildcatters in goals each year. Last season, the Snohomish, WA native finished with 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points. He led Texas in goals, points, power play goals (13), power play points (21), and game-winning goals (3). Snowden finished with 303 shots, the highest in the ECHL. After posing 9 goals and 12 points in the final five games of the ECHL season, Snowden was called up to the AHL by the Utah Grizzlies.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 205-pounder spent three seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, averaging over a point per game.
