August 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release

BEAUMONT, TX (August 26, 2005) - Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Tony MacAulay announced today the team has acquired Alaska Aces defenseman Ryan Moren as part of a three-team trade between Texas, Greenville and Alaska. Texas traded the ECHL rights of John Snowden to Greenville in exchange for Moren, who the Grrrowl previously acquired from Alaska for Colin Shields. In addition to Moren, the Wildcatters will receive an additional player to be named later from Greenville.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defenseman from Lakeville, MN played professionally the last three seasons in Alaska, spending one season with Anchorage of the former WCHL before they joined the ECHL and became the Alaska Aces. In his three professional seasons, Moren has scored 15 goals and added 42 assists in 187 games. An offensive-style defenseman, Moren played his college hockey at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he was twice named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association's Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Conference selection each of his four years. Following a five-assist game the previous night, Moren set an NCAA Division III single-game high during the 1999-2000 season when he scored eight points (1g, 7a) against Northland on February 26. In addition, Moren finished his collegiate career as the MCHA's all-time leading scorer with 43 goals and 128 points in 104 career games and was also a four-time All-Academic All-Conference player.

"We are very happy to acquire Ryan Moren," said MacAulay. "He is a mobile, two-way defenseman who is an offensive threat in special teams situations. His experience in being on one of the best teams in the ECHL last season will definitely be a positive for our organization. Ryan knows what it feels like to win and for this reason, he will fit in nicely with the core group of players we have. Ryan is a quality player who wants to be able to contribute in all aspects for the team and this is why he is a welcome addition to our hockey club"

The new-look Wildcatters open their third season on October 21 at Florida, before returning to Ford Arena for the home opener on October 29 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves.
