
Growlers Split Series with Mallards, Fall 7-4

Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kalamazoo Growlers lost to the defending Northwoods League champion Madison Mallards by a score of 7-4.
The Growlers (1-5) usually potent offense could not string hits together against Mallards (4-2) pitchers, who struck out eight Growlers and gave up just seven hits.
Captain Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) went 1-for-3 on the night with an RBI and crossed home plate for one of the four Growlers runs. Ryan Spaulding (Ball State) and Karl Sorensen (St. Cloud State) also added RBI's for the Growlers as well.
The Growlers had three early errors which led to a four run first inning by the Mallards, and Kalamazoo was not able to recover.
Starting pitcher Ryan Colegate (Ohio Dominican) stretched his outing six innings and gave up seven of the Mallards nine hits along with three earned runs. Colegate was given the loss.
The Growlers start a six game road trip Tuesday, as they head to Wisconsin to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs at 8:05 p.m. ET.
The Growlers next home game is Tuesday, July 15 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Game time is 7:05 p.m. That night is Tuesday Brewsday presented by Bell's Brewery. Fans will enjoy half off Bell's Beer during the game. The Growlers will host Hometown Heroes Night, a special night in appreciation of those in public service and local heroes in the area. There will be a pregame celebrity softball tournament with teams from Kalamazoo Police Department, Portage Fire Department, the Army and WWMT's news crew.
