The Gateway Grizzlies won their second consecutive decision Wednesday night, defeating the Ohio Valley Redcoats 6-2 at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies improve to 29-34. The Redcoats drop to 29-34.
The Grizzlies trailed 2-0 before Mike Breyman drove his 11th home run of the year to left. The two run shot evened the game in the fifth. The Grizzlies took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Eric Sansouci one inning later. They would add three more in the seventh to go up 6-2. Phil Warren, Shawn Smarsh and Oscar Vargas each had RBIs in the inning.
Breyman was 1-4 on the night. Sansouci was 2-2 with the sac fly and a walk. Warren was 1-4 with the RBI. Shawn Smarsh was 2-3 with the RBI. He stole two bases.
Nick Szczur (4-3) started and pitched seven innings for the win. He allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out three. Scott Patterson pitched the final two innings. He did not allow a run on three hits. He struck out three. Patterson has not allowed a run in 11 innings this year.
The Grizzlies and the Redcoats play game two Thursday night at GMC Stadium. Game time is 7:05.
