Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Grizzlies took down the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 7-4 Sunday night in front of 5,214 at GMC Stadium.

The Grizzlies improve to 47-34 with the win. The Mavericks drop to 30-53.

The Grizzlies used a big inning to take down the Mavericks. They scored six runs on four hits in the first inning. Phil Warren and Brad Bauder picked up RBI singles, before Ben Piatt launched a three-run home over the big wall in right field. Tony Coyne added a solo home run in the second to make it 7-1. The Mavs would add a run in the sixth, and two in the fifth to make it 7-4.

Coyne was 2-3 on the night with the home run. Piatt was 2-4 with the three-run home run. Brad Bauder was 1-4 with the RBI. Brian Fuess was 2-4.

Adam Jahnsen pitched six innings in the win. Jahnsen allowed just two runs on six hits. He struck out nine to improve to 4-3. Dave Klahs pitched the final 1 1/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn his seventh save of the year.

The Grizzlies received some playoff help from the River City Rascals as well. The Rascals beat Rockford 12-4. With the win, and the Rockford loss the Grizzlies "magic number" drops to three, meaning any combination of wins or Rockford losses totaling three would give the Grizzlies the West Division crown.

The Grizzlies and Mavericks will conclude the series with a 7:05 game Monday night at GMC Stadium. Tickets remain for Monday's game by calling 618-337-3000.
