Florence Rallies in Ninth Inning to edge Wild Things 3-2

Washington—Nick Macellaro's RBI single in the ninth inning off of Wild Things' reliever Jason Elkins scored Matt Singer with the winning run as Florence edged the Wild Things 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 4,110 at Falconi Field Sunday evening.

Washington got on the board initially in the first inning against Freedom starting pitcher Hal Chafey. Jay Coakley doubled home Jake Bollig to give the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. Blake Woods drove home Orlando Cruz in the second inning to increase the Washington lead to 2-0.

Wild Things starting pitcher Jared Howton gave up two runs to Florence in the fifth inning. Tom Creighton doubled home Nick Macellaro to cut the Washington lead to 2-1. Chris Osterkamp then drove home Creighton with a bunt single to tie the game.

Relievers Rick Cercy of the Freedom and Bake Leonards of the Wild Things matched zeros until they were both lifted in the ninth inning. Matt Singer tripled off of Elkins and Macellaro singled to drive him home for the winning run.

Cercy got the win for Florence. Cercy is now 1-0. Eric Zizleman pitched the ninth inning and earned his fifth save. Elkins took the loss to even his record at 2-2.

The Washington loss and an Evansville victory over Chillicothe put Washington and Evansville in a tie for second place 1.5 games out of Chillicothe's lead.

Washington will complete their series and their regular season home play Monday against Florence . The evening will feature the final Paw Patrol (Kid's Club) of the season and an autograph session with the team following the game. The Observer Reporter will carry a full page color poster of the team on Monday. Game time is 7:05.
