Utah Grizzlies News Release

The Utah Grizzlies continued their six-game home stand last Wednesday with a less than stellar performance versus Chicago. The Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one period. The lone Grizzlies goal came in the second period on a power play when Randall Gelech redirected a Matthew Spiller shot. David LeNeveu was pulled after the first period and Jean-Marc Pelletier made 18 saves in two periods of relief. On Friday night, the Grizzlies took on the best road team in the AHL and came away with a shootout victory. Utah trailed by one goal on two occasions but a power play goal by Gelech erased the first deficit and Peter White's early third period goal erased the second deficit. Erik Westrum gave the Grizzlies the lead in the third period but the Moose answered the bell with a goal by Jeff Heerema, his second of the game, with just 41 seconds remaining. The game proceeded to a shootout where Aaron Gavey scored the game-deciding goal in the seventh round. Jean-Marc Pelletier made 30 saves including six of seven in the shootout. The next night seemed like déjà vu all over again as the Grizzlies again defeated the Moose in a shootout. Utah led 1-0 and 2-1 with goals by Peter White and Kiel McLeod but once again the Moose tied the game in the final minute this time by Ryan Kessler. In the shootout, Erik Westrum scored twice including in the sixth round of the extra session.
