Bears host Philly Wednesday in makeup game at Giant Center

Last Week: The BEARS began the week with a 3-2 shootout victory over the St. John's Maple Leafs at GIANT Center Wednesday. The Leafs led 2-1 late in the third period when Brett Clark tied the game with his third goal of the season. After a scoreless sudden death overtime period, the two teams then engaged in a 15-round shootout, the longest ever involving the BEARS this season. Andre Savage finally won the game for HERSHEY in round 15 to earn the victory. Peter Budaj won the game, his 15th of the season. On Friday night, the BEARS traveled to Wilkes-Barre to take on the Penguins and won in thrilling fashion 4-2. HERSHEY trailed in the game 2-0 after two periods, but rallied with four third period goals to seal the win. Dennis Bonvie, Chris Bala, Nick Naumenko and Jeff Ulmer all scored third period goals to stun the Baby Pens at Wachovia Arena. Following a 6-1 loss to Hartford Saturday night, the BEARS rebounded to defeat the Albany River Rats Sunday 2-1 at GIANT Center. Trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, the BEARS would tie the game at the 2:53 mark of the third when Eric Perrin scored his 14th goal of the season. The game would go to overtime, where Jeff Ulmer scored the game-winning tally at 2:30 of sudden death. It was the seventh win in a row for HERSHEY over Albany this season, and the eighth straight going back to the end of last season The BEARS begin the week 23-22-1-0, good for 47 points and fifth place in the AHL's East Division standings.

Notables: Jeff Ulmer is HERSHEY'S nominee for CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week honors. Ulmer carries an active six game goal streak into Wednesday night's game against Philadelphia. The streak is the longest by a HERSHEY skater this season, and the second longest in the AHL in 2004-05. Manchester's Michael Cammalleri has the longest streak this season, scoring goals in seven straight games from October 29 to November 27. After Sunday's rally against Albany, the BEARS have now won eight games this season when trailing after two periods. The eight wins are the most by any team in the AHL this season when down after 40 minutes. Bridgeport, Manitoba and Syracuse rank in a second place tie in the category, winning just five times when trailing after two. Andre Savage has picked up an assist in five straight games dating back to January 23. HERSHEY finished January with a 7-5-0-0 record, the second consecutive winning month earned by Paul Fixter's club. The BEARS finished December with a 9-5-0-0 mark. The BEARS, WGAL TV-8 and HERSHEY ENTERTAINMENT AND RESORTS company teamed up to raise over $38,000 Sunday night for the American Red Cross and the Tsunami relief effort in southeast Asia.

Stoner Graphix HERSHEY BEARS Post it-Notepad night is Saturday, February 12 when the Bridgeport Sound Tigers come to town at 7:00 p.m. A free BEARS post-it note pad to the first 3,000 fans. COCO THE BEAR Bobblehead night, sponsored by your hometown Dodge Dealers, is Sunday, February 27 when the BEARS play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 5:00 p.m. A free bobblehead doll of HERSHEY BEARS mascot COCO to the first 4,500 fans through the gates. Sunday, March 13 is Throwback night at GIANT Center, with the BEARS taking on the Norfolk Admirals at 5:00 p.m. HERSHEY will wear commemorative 1968-69 jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game for charity. Sunday, March 20 is Bic Graphic USA Photo Night when the BEARS take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a free HERSHEY BEARS marker from Bic, and all fans may come onto the ice after the game to take photos of BEARS player. All fans that enter the ice after the game will also receive a complimentary team photo.

Down on the Farm: The Reading Royals won for the first time in four games on the road Saturday, defeating the Dayton Bombers at the Nutter Center 4-2. The Royals trail first place Wheeling in the North Division by three points, but have three games in hand as well. Forward Jon Francisco picked up a goal and two assists to lead the way for the Royals Saturday in the Gem City. Reading's record after the win stands at 23-12-3. Quad City dropped a game Sunday night to Rockford 4-0. The Mallards remain in fourth place in the UHL's Western Division with 45 points, trailing third place Missouri by six.
