
Grizzlies Re-Sign All-Star Sertich

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies, proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced today that All-Star defenseman Andy Sertich has been signed to a contract for the 2007-2008 season. The announcement was made by Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie.
During his rookie season last year, Sertich had seven goals and led the team with 40 assists for 47 points, playing in all 72 games. He led the Grizzlies in scoring over the final 42 games, with six goals and 32 assists. On January 5, 2007, the Minnesota native tied an all-time Grizzlies high for points in a game with five (one goal, four assists) as Utah picked up their first-ever win in Alaska, 6-4.
"It's a big relief to be going back to Utah," said Sertich. "I love the area and am very comfortable with the organization. Coach Christie is committed to excellence and winning; we look forward to contending this season."
"Andy was a top priority this offseason," said Christie. "He had a great rookie season, proving the kind of top notch player he is. He was also a great asset to our organization in the community. We look forward to having him back as we begin our affiliation with the Islanders."
The 24-year-old was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2002. In addition, he was also part of the University of Minnesota's National Championship team in 2003.
Also, during the 2006-2007 season, Sertich was named to the National Conference All-Star Team, picking up an assist in the game on January 17, 2007 in Boise, Idaho. With the Grizzlies, Sertich emerged as the team's power-play specialist, collecting a team-high 29 points with Utah on the one-man advantage.
The Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, enter their third season in America's "Premier AA Hockey League." On May 22, 2007, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced an affiliation with the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Former Grizzlies Ric Jackman and Scott Niedermayer recently won the Stanley Cup as members of the Anaheim Ducks. At the start of the 2006-2007 season, 23 former Grizzlies were on NHL rosters. 12 of those former players advanced to the playoffs.
In addition, during the 2006-2007 season, the team made over 120 community appearances, including two all-team hospital visits and over 30 elementary school assemblies; while donating nearly $120,000 in cash, tickets and merchandise to charity.
