Iowa Cubs News Release

FRESNO, CA - The Iowa Cubs (37-65) stumbled to a 9-1 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies (60-43), Wednesday at Chukchansi Park.

Casey Coleman (2-2) shut down the Grizzlies in the first, but lost his footing in the second. The Grizzlies put up six runs as Garrett Stubbs and Derek Fisher each contributed to the scoring with home runs. Coleman was forced to turn the ball over to Kyle Ryan with just one out. Ryan allowed two runners via a single and an error before shutting down the inning.

Fresno cashed in again in the fourth, grabbing three runs on four hits. Jack Mayfield claimed two of the RBI with the Grizzlies' third home run of the game.

Iowa used six arms in the game, including catcher Chris Gimenez in the eighth. Following Ryan's two innings of work, Dakota Mekkes, Dillon Maples, Cory Mazzoni and Gimenez shutout the Grizzlies through the back 4.2 frames, allowing just three base runners between them.

The I-Cubs rallied in the ninth as Ryan Court extend his hitting streak to 19 games with a leadoff single. Court got to third with a Taylor Davis walk and a fielder's choice, before Jacob Hannemann punched in Iowa's run with a single. It was too little too late, as Iowa couldn't keep up the rally.

Iowa and Fresno wrap the series at 9:05 p.m. CT tomorrow at Chukchansi Park. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
