Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
SACRAMENTO, CA - Trevor Oaks lowered his PCL-leading ERA to 2.05 with another excellent outing, leading Omaha to a 5-3 victory over Sacramento on Wednesday night at Raleigh Field.
Omaha took the lead in the top of the 1st, as Billy Burns led off with a double, Nicky Lopez bunted for a base hit, and Ryan O'Hearn knocked Burns home with a sacrifice fly.
Sacramento tied it in the bottom of the 1st; Peter Bourjos walked, Evan Longoria grounded into a force play, Chris Shaw grounded out, and Ryder Jones singled to score Longoria and make it 1-1.
The Chasers regained the advantage in the top of the 4th. Elier Hernandez singled, Humberto Arteaga reached on a fielder's choice, and after Arteaga advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, Jack Lopez hit a grounder to 3rd that was thrown away by rehabbing Evan Longoria, allowing Arteaga to score. It was 2-1 Omaha.
Trevor Oaks (W, 7-4) pitched another strong game for Omaha, throwing 7.2 innings. He allowed 1 run, 8 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 1.
On a bullpen day for Sacramento, Josh Osich pitched the first 2 innings for the River Cats, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Jose Valdez (L, 2-4) tossed the next 3, allowing the unearned go-ahead run in the 4th. Tyler Rogers pitched the next 3, and Pierce Johnson pitched the 9th.
Omaha, meanwhile, summoned Eric Stout for the final out of the bottom of the 8th, and then extended their lead in the top of the 9th.
Elier Hernandez singled and was pinch-run for by Terrance Gore . Donnie DeWees also singled, and he and Gore executed a double-steal to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Humberto Arteaga hit a ground ball to short, and Gore beat the throw home to make it 3-1. Later in the inning, Nicky Lopez made it 4-1 with an RBI single. A subsequent wild pitch scored Arteaga, and it was 5-1 Chasers.
Eric Stout went back to the mound for the bottom of the 9th, and was greeted with back-to-back hits. Jake Newberry (S, 2) was summoned, and issued a walk, a sacrifice fly to Orlando Calixte, and an RBI single to Peter Bourjos. But he induced a double play from Evan Longoria, ending the game and giving Omaha their 2nd consecutive victory.
The Storm Chasers (46-56) will continue the series in Sacramento tomorrow night at 9:05 Central. LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (4-8, 3.88) will oppose Sacramento's RHP Shaun Anderson (0-0, 3.60)
